Jets In Gold Rush To New Orleans and AAU National Championships In a Youth Track and Field meet that saw records falling like flies, the High Flying Jets of the Flight101 Track Club came away with four Regional Champions in this weekends AAU Region Six Championships, hosted by the Youngstown Striders Track Club at Wooster High School Stadium, in Wooster OH. Competing against athletes from Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan and Illinois, the Jets were among over 1900 youngsters between the ages of 8 to 18 vying for an opportunity to compete in the AAU National Junior Olympics Games at Tad Gormley Stadium in News Orleans, Louisiana, July 29th thru August 5th. The Jets had 11 local athletes in 17 individual events and 1 relay scheduled to compete, but because of injuries and summer schedule conflicts only 8 were able to compete this weekend. However the Jets that competed came thru with high flying performances earning them 4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The top four athletes in each event advanced to the nationals. Local athletes competing and those moving on to the national championships are listed below.
The Jets will be continuing their quest for gold competing this weekend in the USA Track and Field Region 5 Championships to be held at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington Kentucky. The top 3 athletes in each event will advance to the USATF National junior Olympic Championships in Indianapolis Indiana, July 25 thru the 29. High lighted by 9 District gold medal performances, Jets advancing to the USATF Region 5 Championships July 7-10th from the Lake Erie District Meet held at West Holmes High School in Millersburg June 25th are:
