Jets Have Strong Showing at 40th USATF Junior Olympic

National Championships In Baltimore MD.

Text Box: The 2006 Flight101 Jets Have Four Honorable Mention All-Americans

      The Flight101 Jets continue to establish themselves as one of the elite youth track and field programs in the area this year having 4 of it’s athletes ranked among the best in the country in their respective events.  Sponsored by the United Stars Track and Field Club, the National Elite Ranking System is a data base of thousands of performances by thousands of athletes from all over the country during the outdoor track and field season.  The performances are taken from the official results of USA Track and Field and AAU Association, Regional and National Championships with a few open meets included. 

Based on performances by age group, with the top 20 performances in the country earning All-American status and the top 100 Honorable Mention, this years Jets had 4 athletes attain Honorable Mention status.    The 2006 Honorable Mention All-Americans were Jackson students Courtney Armsey (13-14) 74th -200m Intermediate hurdles and 87th in the 100m hurdles,  Alexandria Rossetti (15-16) 96th in the shot put, Ernest Ike (13-14)  65th in the 100m hurdles and 86th in the 200 hurdles and Jahari Murdock 52nd in the 400m dash.

Canton OH - Ten local athletes qualified to competed in  the 40th USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships held at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. The USATF Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships is the most visible youth athletic development program in the world. Many of today's Olympic stars began their track and field careers competing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.

 

For seven days, from July 25th thru 30th, over 6,000 athletes  converged on Baltimore for the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Champion-ships.  Entry for the championship was based on athlete performances at  Regional levels with the local athletes competing in the Region V Championships held in Millersburg OH on July 8th and 9th.  

 

Local athletes competing in the National Championship included Canton 6th Grader JaSmyn Martin, Tuslaw's Abbey Warth,  Marina Capuano and Justin Trawick from Plain Local, Surasia Jackson from Warren and April McPherson, Courtney Armsey and Jahari Murdock from Jackson.  

Murdock competing in his 4th consecutive National Championship finished 9th in the 400m dash and 25th in the 200m respectively.  The 400m relay team of Jackson, Warth,  McPherson and Capuano finished 17th and Trawick was 18th in the long jump.  JaSmyn Martin finished 23rd in the 400m dash and 34th in the 100m, Armsey was 21st in the 100m hurdles and 24 in the 200m hurdles and Warth was 26th in the 400m dash respectively.
