FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Striders Capture Third Place Overall Finish at 2nd Annual West Akron Track Club Invitational June 9, 2004 -- The Warren-Massillon Striders kickoff the 2004 Track and Field Season with a 3rd place team finish at the 2nd Annual City of Akron Track and Field Invitational hosted by the West Akron Track Club. Held at the Lane Miller Sorts and Recreation Complex in Akron Ohio the Striders competed against team from as far away as Columbus OH. Lead by outstanding performances by Jackson Middle School 6th grader Jahari Murdock and Jackson elementary school student - 6 year old Madison Beadling, the Striders had 9 gold medalists, 4 silver and 3 bronze finishing with 220 point overall. Established in 1977, the Warren-Massillon Striders Track Club is a United States of America Track and Field (USATF) certified junior Olympic program that competes in youth meets all over the United States. Athletes running with the Striders range from Sub Bantam which is 8 years old and under thru Masters at 35 years of age and older. Since its inception in 1977, the Striders have qualified nearly 100 youngsters for the National Junior Olympic Championships and has had two of its graduates invited to the USA Olympic Trails in 1996 and 2000. Many non-track athletes desiring to improve their playing speed train with the Striders in the winter and summer months. In preparation for this years National Junior Olympic Championships to be held in Eugene Oregon, the Striders will be traveling to Chanel High School, in Bedford OH to compete in then Ohio Flyers Early Bird Invitational this coming Saturday, June 5.
