| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jackson Student Earns All-American Status in Youth Track and FieldDecember 3, 2002 -- Jahari
Murdock, Sponsored by the United Stars Track Club, the National Elite Youth Ranking System is a database of over 232,122 performances by more than 50,000 athletes during the year 2002 outdoor track and field season. The performances are taken from the official results of USA Track and Field and AAU Association, Regional and National Championships with a few open meets included. Based on performances by age group, the top 20 performances in the country earned All-American status and the top 100 performances Honorable Mention. Murdock’s USATF Lake Erie District Championships win in the long jump with a distance of 14’ 5” ranked him 18th in the country out of 2,457 performances listed in 2002. Competing in the 400m dash for the first time this year, Murdock ranked 76th out 2,789 athletes listed in 2002 with a time of 66.5 seconds. Murdock also turned in stellar performances in the 100m dash with a time of 14.1 seconds placing him 201st nationally out of 3,677 athletes ranked this past season. Murdock adds his All-American honors to what was an outstanding summer track and field season. Murdock also won 100m and 400m dashes at the Hershey Youth Recreational Track and Field State Championships held at Jessie Owens Stadium at Ohio State University and qualified for the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic National Championships in Omaha NE in the long jump and 400m dash. He was also named the Most Valuable Performer 10 and under at the Pegasus Track Club Wendy’s Open in East Liverpool, the Joe Smith Invitational held at Youngstown State University and the First Annual Warren-Massillon Striders Youth Classic. Joined by fellow Strausser student Patrick Teynor, Murdock also anchored the Striders 4 x 100m-relay team to a fifth place finish at the USATF Regional Championships held at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium this past season. Joining Murdock on the All-American list was Jackson senior Ashley Spenser who made Honorable Mention in the High Jump.
