FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Two Area Athletes Leap Their Way To National ChampionshipsJuly 12 2004-- Perry Elementary student Aristotle Mittas and Jackson 7th grader Jahari Murdock both qualified for the 2004 USA Track and Field Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships by bringing home the gold in the long jump at this weekends Region V Championships held at Farmington High School, Farmington Hills, Michigan. Hosted by the Flint International Track Club the Regional Championships brought together some of the best youth track and filed athletes from the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Lake Erie Districts. Murdock, although not 100% recovered from a bout with strep throat, also managed to qualify in the two other events by taking 3rd in the 100m and second in the 200m dashes respectively. The top 3 finishers at the Regional Championships advanced to the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships to be held in the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, July 27 thru August 1.
